Overview

What counts as an electrical repair, and when to call

Electrical repair is for a fault you cannot pin down: half the outlets have no power, something has power but does not heat or run, or a plate feels warm. It starts from $49 per service call. Call (213) 322-0128 or send the form. See all of the electrical services we offer if your problem is more specific.

A light on a control does not prove the thing it controls works. A lit indicator only shows that part of the control has power. That is why we test the supply before we name the fault.

If you smell burning or see sparks, stop using the circuit. If there is smoke or fire, call 911.

What we do

Faults we find and fix

Every price in this section: starting price; your cost may differ.

1

Dead circuit

A circuit or a group of outlets with no power, traced to the cause.

2

Partial power loss

Part of the home without power while the rest works.

3

Appliance supply faults

A hood, towel warmer or other fixed appliance that has power but does not work properly.

4

Failed controls and timers

A control that lights up but does not switch the load.

5

Repeated trips

We find the cause first. If the fault is the breaker itself, we route you to breaker repair.

6

Warm plates and burning smells

Triage for a warm plate or a burning smell. Stop using the circuit and call.

7

Faults after a renovation

Something that stopped working after other trades finished.

The visit

How troubleshooting works from call to test

  • Call us, or send the form. A form request gets a callback in about 5 minutes.
  • Describe both what the control shows and what the appliance or circuit actually does.
  • We agree a time. Same-day service is possible in many cases, and if not, it is usually the next day or within a few days. We do not promise a time before we hear about the job.
  • The electrician traces the fault and tells you what was found.
  • We discuss the price before the work starts.
  • The repair is done and the circuit is tested.

Troubleshooting means finding the cause before replacing anything. You get a price before we start the repair.

Field notes

Field notes: when a lit control does not mean a working load

✓ Completed Jun 29, 2026

A towel warmer stayed cold even though the indicator on its control lit up. Testing showed a steady supply at the appliance connection, but the heating element had failed. The fixed wiring was fine, so we replaced the manufacturer-serviceable heating assembly and checked the local connection. The warmer reached its controlled temperature and the protective checks passed. The relevant reference is NFPA 70 (NEC), 422 and 110.

An illuminated indicator can leave the actual heating load completely unproved.

Our electrician

Our electrician’s advice: describe both the control display and the appliance’s physical behavior when you ask for a repair.

A hood that stopped at one speed

✓ Completed Jul 2, 2026

An extractor hood stopped at one speed while its light still worked. We checked the supply, found a failed speed control and fitted the specified part. We then checked every speed and the light. The repair fixed the speed control, but we made no claim about how well the hood extracts.

A door chime that sounded weak

✓ Completed Mar 15, 2026

A door-entry chime sounded weakly after a second unit was added. The transformer was too small for both. We replaced it with a compatible rated unit and tested both chimes, with one person at the door and another at each chime.
