Overview
What lighting installation includes and who needs it
Lighting installation covers new fixtures, a different fixture in place of a working one, and lighting added in a room that has too little. It suits homeowners redoing a kitchen or a living room, people who bought a fixture and need it hung, and workshops and offices with changing layouts. Installation starts from $59 per fixture, and the final price depends on ceiling height, the wiring and the type of fixture. Call (213) 322-0128 or see every electrical service we offer.
What we do
Fixtures we install, from recessed to landscape
Every price in this section: starting price; your cost may differ.
Recessed lighting installation
Can lights cut into a ceiling, new or as a retrofit. Tell us how many and what is above the ceiling.
Pendants and chandeliers
Hung at the right height over a table or a stair, including tall ceilings.
Sconces and track lighting
Wall lights and track, set up so the light falls where you use it.
Under- and over-cabinet task lighting
Lights placed over the surface where you work, so you are not in your own shadow.
Dimmers and switches with the lights
Controls matched to the fixtures, so dimming is smooth.
Workshop, garage and outdoor lighting
Zones for a workshop or garage, and weather-rated lights outdoors and in landscaping.
LED conversions
Older fixtures swapped for LED, with the driver and controls checked.
What to have ready
- Which fixtures you have already bought, and any model numbers.
- The ceiling height and what sits above it.
- Photos of the room and the existing fixtures.
- Where you stand or sit when you use the light.
Pricing
What a light fixture installation costs
How much does it cost to install a light? Light fixture installation starts from $59 per fixture. That is a price per fixture, not a total.
The price is per job, not per hour. We give the price for your job on the call and explain it before the work starts.

| Light fixture installation | From $59 per fixture | Ceiling height and ladder or scaffold, an existing box or new wiring, cutting in a recessed light, dimmers and controls, and the number of fixtures | Quoted on the call |
Decision guide
Which lighting setup fits the room and the budget
| Fixture type | Typical job | What changes the price | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|---|

| Surface-mount | A fixture fitted to an existing box | Fixture weight and ceiling height | A simple swap |
| Track | A track and heads on one feed | Track length and the number of heads | Lighting you can aim and change |
| Pendant | Hung and wired at the chosen height | Ceiling type and height | Over a table, an island or a stair |
| A fixture already failing | Not an installation job | What is wrong | Lighting repair |
| A fan with a light | Fan wiring and mounting | Support and ceiling height | Ceiling fan installation |

Field notes
Field notes: kitchen task lights, a library and a workshop
A homeowner wanted brighter ceiling lights because their own shadow fell across the cutting area. Watching them prepare food showed the real problem: the light came from behind them. We kept the ceiling lights, installed task lighting beneath the cabinets and regrouped the controls. We checked the work surface during normal preparation and found no glare. The relevant reference is NFPA 70 (NEC), 410.
Task lighting performs best when its location follows the work surface and the user’s position.
Our electrician
Our electrician’s advice: explain where you prepare food when choosing under-cabinet fixture positions.
A library with art on the walls
A home library had to serve reading and display. We asked the owner to sit in their usual chair, chose adjustable fixtures and checked the aiming from that seat to avoid reflections on the artwork. Shelves and seating got separate controls.
A workshop where the benches move
The owner sometimes worked on a central table and sometimes along the walls. We designed lighting zones that follow each layout, so one zone can be on without the whole shop at full brightness. We checked each work position once the equipment was back in place.
